Currently employing more than 700 people, in four separate retirement communities in Bristol and the surrounding area, including Sandford in North Somerset, the St Monica Trust is an award-winning organisation receiving national recognition for its excellence as an employer, for its exceptional provision of training and development opportunities for all staff as well as its pioneering and high quality accommodation, care and support for older people.
The Trust has invested in a significant expansion programme, providing jobs for more than 100 people at its retirement village at Sandford Station in North Somerset. The first phase of this development, The Russets, opened in March 2009, providing the very best 24-hour care for people who are living with dementia. Next to open in October 2009 was the sheltered housing accommodation, and finally in May 2010 we are opening a 30 bed general needs nursing facility.
This means we are now seeking to recruit an outstanding team of nurses and carers to be part of this exciting new nursing facility at Sandford Station. As well as care jobs we may need to recruit additional support staff such as caterers and housekeepers, all of whom are critical to the delivery of well-being to our residents.
Specific vacancies for Sandford Station and our three other sites in Bristol, are always advertised on our website

Volunteering at the St Monica Trust is a wonderful way of meeting new people, learning new skills as well as using your existing skills and knowledge in a way that will be greatly valued and appreciated by the older people who live in our residential communities. It’s also a way to gain hands-on experience in the field of social care.
The St Monica Trust has an established team of volunteers who help to provide support to elderly residents, alongside the Pastoral care and Care and support teams. Volunteers accompany residents to lunch or for a walk in the grounds, help with games and puzzles, and occasionally accompany residents on visits and shopping trips. Sometimes, all that’s really needed is a quick chat over a cup of tea and a biscuit!
The Charity is now looking to extend its volunteering programme at its sites in Westbury-on-Trym. All ages and backgrounds are welcome to apply, but you do need to be able to give up a minimum of 2-3 hours per week.
Prior to becoming a fully fledged volunteer, you will receive induction training to help you understand the ethos of the Charity, and in more practical matters like Health and Safety and confidentiality. As far as possible, we endeavour to match residents’ needs and interests to your own. If you need additional support at any time or wish to talk about your experiences, a member of the pastoral care team is always on hand.
